The Bureau extends free consulting appointments for artists, curators, administrators, collectors, or other creative practitioners. These sessions offer individual, personal advice and professional conversation.

Sessions can be documented and result in a written response tailored to the client's needs. Topics might be production, technical expertise, a second opinion on a current project, or conceptual counseling. 

Clients complete a simple intake form for The Bureau's consultants to determine your specific requirements and research interests.

JL Murtaugh is an artist, curator, writer, and consultant organizing projects under the alias of Syndicate since 2014.

Syndicate is a liquid, nomadic contemporary art platform producing exhibitions, events, and publications with a group of long-term artist collaborators. It’s now based in Vilnius, with former headquarters in Los Angeles, Cologne, and London.

Since 2023, Murtaugh is the curator of residencies and public programmes at Rupert. Previously, he was the artistic director of Autarkia, Vilnius from 2020–23, and the director of Tenderpixel in London from 2012–14.

Murtaugh studied fine art at Goldsmiths College in London (MFA), Kunstakademie Düsseldorf, and Columbia College (BFA) following earlier education in architecture and design.
