I wish this was a different story. The world has turned suddenly upside down. They don't know what it is to be so chronically untouched that it extended from a spaceless to the edge of what can be petted, that an accidental brush of mailman's hand on your palm sent a jolt of longing straight to your trunk. I have sat on the grass, park benches, stoops, hospital room chairs, holding the great stocks of unused, objectless desire impaled in my lungs that collapses without oxygen until I was sure I was not in the room where the air is burning. There was something he was supposed to be doing; only he couldn’t remember what. Ask the eye to see its eyelashes. He could remember all the lunar flora and fauna ever thought he’d remember his arrival to this land where the only way to see home is during nighttime up in the sky. Cole Lu & Bri Williams

A joint presentation by Et al. (San Francisco) and Syndicate (Vilnius)

The collaboration consists of exhibitions in both San Francisco, USA and Vilnius, Lithuania at Syndicate's new space, hosted by Autarkia.

Building on the past collaborations between the galleries, the latest takes place in the context of a dislocated NADA Miami. A sharp contrast to the hub of activity hosted by the sea each winter, the participants are instead separated by thousands of miles, and seeing each portion live is impossible.

New sculptures by Cole Lu reframe the gap through the founding mythologies of interstellar travel, while Bri Williams' works turn simultaneously inward half a world apart.

Cole Lu is an artist and writer originally from Taipei and based in New York. He previously collaborated with Syndicate for FAIR by NADA 2020; ‘The Third Lie’ for Poppositions Brussels 2019, ‘The Patio’ at Arcade Gallery, London UK. Recent exhibitions include Haus Wien, Vienna; The Drawing Center, Deli Gallery (all NY); and Monaco, St Louis. In 2018 Cole was a resident at Triangle Arts Association, and has forthcoming projects at Autoitalia (London), Nir Altman (Munich), and Autarkia (Vilnius).

Bri Williams is an artist who works primarily in sculpture. Willliams’ solo exhibitions include Murmurs, LA; Queer Thoughts, NY, and Interface, Oakland; and group exhibitions at Ochi Projects, Los Angeles; Karma International, Los Angeles; Ramiken Crucible, LA; and Queer Thoughts, Y, among others. Williams will have a solo show at Et al. in San Francisco in 2021.
